I mentioned this a while back in the WITNESS chat, but I thought I'd bring it up here and test the waters for interest, and try to settle on a structure and medium that works for everybody!
Basically, the thought is this. I'm a long-time roleplayer, including the tabletop kind with dice. That's not what I intend to do, but the structure of storytelling is similar. Instead of everybody cooperating on creating a story, I write up a Scenario, or an Adventure, which the players follow. You all only have to focus on your own characters, whoever it is you want to play, and I'll do the rest! As Game-master (I was thinking of calling it Imperator, for setting flavour!) I control what happens, when it happens, what the weather's like, if there's cover for you when you want it, what the NPC's do and say, etc. You control your characters actions, and I let you know if what you're trying to do will succeed.
For example:
Butts the War Boy is trying to throw his lance at an uncoming Buzzard vehicle! Butts is a skilled lancer according to his backstory, so as Imperator I decide that yes, this is reasonable. I make a post replying to Butts that yes, his lance hits, and the Buzzard driver screams as his rib cage implodes. The vehicle veers into a nearby ravine and perishes in a cloud of flame and smoke. Everybody gets cake and hugs.
If Snot the Organic Mechanic tried to do the same thing, I might rule that no, Snot is not good with lances according to his backstory, so his lance misses wildly and his lance flies to the side of the vehicle. If another player happens to be there at the time, this might end very badly, and Snot will have to do his duties as an Organic, and never touch a lance again.
This is pretty standard stuff. I might even do some dice rolling if I think the odds are evenly matched, but that stuff will happen behind the scenes, and most of you will probably not really notice.
Everybody who joins would take turns posting, and the group can even split up to pursue different goals if they should want. (If people are just chatting and nothing particularly is happening, people can post at whatever pace they like, but if there is a combat situation I might want people to wait for the others to take their turn before posting again.)
I'd do my best to answer you guys regularly, and populate the wasteland with interesting stuff to do. I'll also of course let people solve the problems that occur in whatever inventive or devilish way they want to, but I'll hope that you'll want to follow the storyline and not decide to run off instead and found a new Citadel somewhere!
This post is more to check for interest, and what type of characters people would be interested in joining up with. It wouldn't start any time soon, as I'm still working on ideas for the campaign, but it's a lot easier to write if I can incorporate peoples backgrounds into the story, and I think it's more fun for everyone involved! Not only War Boys are allowed, but all kinds of characters. I'll make sure to find some way to get everybody working together.
